Twenty five youth artists went fishing on the Seawatch out of Seaforth Landing last week. With the collaborated funds of the Chuck Byron Youth Art program, the San Diego Rod & Reel Club, and the Friends of Rollo Fdn. sponsored the kids going out fishing on a half day trip. Most of the kids were participants in the 2010 Youth Marine Art Contest and this trip was particularly special due to having both artists, Matt Kotch and Greg Guterriez on board to talk about “the art of fishing”. These annual trips are a way to inspire the young artists in understanding our oceans and using their talents to recreate what they have seen and learned while out on the water. Friends of Rollo provided the tackle and a hotdog lunch for all, along with setting up the boat arrangements. The Rod & Reel Club and the Youth Art program both raised money this summer with their annual Big Fish and Fish On! tournaments. “With donations down for all of us this year, the best way to make sure we get kids out on the water was to combine our funds. This way we can take them on a couple trips until our next fund raisers in 2011”. Says, Lori Byron. Lori is the director for the Chuck Byron Youth Art program. She says there are many programs out there raising money to take kids fishing, “With donations being cut back from most all our sponsors we have found an affordable way to cover the cost of trips by sharing the cost.”

All three non-profit programs raise money annually for kids and if you would like to know more about them, how to get involved, or go fishing with us, they can be found on line. Or call Lori Byron at 619-301-3193.
